2021 Cadillac XT6 driving down Stuart FL city road.

2021 Cadillac XT6 Review, Pricing, and Specs

Although it shares components with the GMC Acadia, the 2021 Cadillac XT6 manages to disguise its down-market roots with convincingly upscale styling and a feature-rich options list. Two engines are offered—a turbocharged four-cylinder and a V-6—and there’s even a Sport model with a torque-vectoring rear differential.

Despite its performance bits, the XT6 lacks the driving verve of more athletic rivals such as the Audi Q7 and BMW X5. Instead, it seems better suited for taking on its crosstown rival, the Lincoln Aviator. Cadillac provides plenty of desirable equipment in the XT6, including a host of driver-assistance features, three rows of seats, and a power-operated liftgate.

2021 Cadillac XT6 Interior view from outside Driver Seat

What’s New for 2021?

A turbocharged four-cylinder joins the XT6 lineup for 2021 as part of the new entry-level Luxury trim level. The turbo four is shared with the smaller XT5 SUV, makes 237 horsepower, and comes paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. The 310-hp V-6 is still standard on the Premium Luxury and Sport models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are now standard across the lineup, and the top-level Sport model receives a new 20-inch wheel design.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

In our experience, the Sport’s chassis upgrades don’t offer a noticeable improvement in performance, so we’d stick with the mid-range Premium Luxury trim. To that, we’d add the Comfort and Air Quality package (heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and an air ionizer) as well as the second-row captain’s chairs, in-dash navigation, and 14-speaker Bose Premium stereo system.

2021 Cadillac XT6 Engine Specifications

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

For 2021, XT6 Buyers can choose from either a 237-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 310-hp V-6 engine. Both come with a nine-speed automatic and can be had with front- or all-wheel drive. Three trim levels—Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport—make up the XT6 lineup, with the first two being more about comfort and the Sport receiving performance-enhancing extras such as a torque-vectoring rear differential and retuned steering.

A Platinum package is available and gives the XT6 all the goodies. No matter the trim, the XT6 certainly looks handsome; 20-inch wheels come standard, but you can get 21-inchers on the Sport model. Handling is reasonably athletic for a three-row crossover, but no one will mistake it for the agile CT5-V sedan.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates the 2021 XT6 with the standard turbo-four will earn up to 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Models with the V-6 engine are rated up to 19 mpg city and 26 highway. The all-wheel-drive XT6 we ran on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, is less rosy with a result of 22 mpg. For reference, the Mercedes-Benz GLE450 we tested on that route earned 23.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Inside, the Cadillac offers both seven- and eight-seat layouts, featuring either a pair of captain’s chairs or a three-seat bench in the second row. All XT6s come with a third row that’ll seat three passengers. The XT6’s interior trimmings don’t impress when compared with those of the Audi Q7 or the BMW X5. Cargo space is limited, too, with room for only three carry-on suitcases.

But lowering the back two rows frees up enough room to fit 31 suitcases. The Q7 accommodates four cases behind its third row but just 25 with the seats down, making the XT6 the better choice if you regularly need to transport big and bulky cargo.

Infotainment System screen in the 2021 Cadillac XT6

Infotainment and Connectivity

All XT6 models come with a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, onboard Wi-Fi, and wireless smartphone charging. Cadillac’s latest version of its CUE (Cadillac User Experience) software is displayed crisply on an 8.0-inch screen and reacts promptly to commands. Navigation is an optional feature, as is a rear-seat entertainment system with a DVD player.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given the XT6 a five-star rating, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named it a Top Safety Pick+, the agency’s highest honor. A host of driver-assistance features (automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring) are standard, while more advanced features (adaptive cruise control, night vision) are available as options. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  •  Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  •  Available adaptive cruise control and night vision

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

All Cadillac models, including the XT6, come with the same standard warranty package. It entails bumper-to-bumper coverage for four years or 50,000 miles and a powertrain warranty that stretches to six years or 70,000 miles. Most of the XT6’s European rivals offer only a four-year/50,000-package for both warranties.

  •  Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers six years or 70,000 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit

2021 Cadillac XT5 for Sale near Stuart, FL

2021 Cadillac XT5 Review, Pricing, and Specs

As a compact luxury SUV, the 2021 Cadillac XT5 aims for broad appeal. Unfortunately, it lacks some key attributes needed to compete successfully against impressive vehicles like the BMW X3Mercedes-AMG GLC43, and Volvo XC60. The XT5’s cabin is spacious and comfortable and it offers a refined ride, but its appeal is otherwise limited.

Buyers can choose from either a turbocharged four-cylinder or a V-6 engine, but loading up the XT5 with options quickly pushes its price tag to Porsche Macan territory an area where the XT5 is even more out of its depth.

2021 Cadillac XT5 newest driver comfort features

What’s New for 2021?

The XT5 receives a number of new standard features for 2021, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, Amazon Alexa integration, and an upgraded digital display in the gauge cluster. Elsewhere, the XT5’s exterior cameras get upgraded to provide better picture quality, a more robust wireless charging pad and USB-C charging outlets have been added, and a feature that uses Near Field Communication to pair smartphones in just one step joins the list.

Starting in 2021, Cadillac will also offer a handful of more advanced driver assistance features, including night vision, rear pedestrian alert, and improved automatic parking assist.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The Cadillac XT5‘s base price is $44,990, but we think the mid-level Premium Luxury model is the best value. In our experiences behind the wheel, the XT5 Sport failed to get our blood pumping so we don’t think it’s worth the investment. The Premium Luxury version adequately fulfills the brand’s luxury promises, with desirable standard features such as leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, wireless charging, and more.

While not everyone needs the all-weather capability of all-wheel drive, it’s available for another $2000 if you want it. The 237-hp turbo four-cylinder is standard, while the optional 310-hp V-6 costs $1000 more. Get the V-6.

2021 Cadillac XT5 Engine Specifications

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The XT5’s standard turbocharged four-cylinder makes 237 horsepower and the optional V-6 produces 310 ponies. With either engine, it’s no match for performance oriented rivals such as the 340-hp Porsche Macan S. However, the Caddy stacks up favorably against the Lexus RX350 and the Volvo XC60.

In light-footed, day-to-day operation, we’ve found the Cadillac’s V-6 to be impressively quiet and well isolated from the cabin. Under heavy throttle, however, the bigger engine’s harshness makes itself known in a most unflattering way.

Encounter a twisty road and the 2021 XT5 can tackle it with confidence, although it won’t make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up even when equipped with the optional adaptive suspension. Body roll is well controlled and the XT5 feels substantial and planted, which is especially comforting on long highway slogs.

Over rough stretches of broken pavement, however, our test vehicle felt jittery and allowed sharp impacts to reverberate through the cabin. Steering is accurate but lacks any visceral feedback another missed opportunity to appeal to enthusiast drivers.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Front-wheel-drive XT5s with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder earn EPA fuel economy estimates of 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined. Moving up to the V-6 drops mpg to 18 city, 26 highway, and 21 combined. On both models, adding the optional all-wheel drive lowers these estimates slightly, a small concession for added confidence in inclement weather.

On our 200-mile highway fuel economy test route, an all-wheel-drive XT5 with the V-6 engine delivered 23 mpg, while a front-wheel-drive model with the turbocharged four-cylinder managed 29 mpg.

2021 Cadillac XT5 Interior

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Passenger space is acceptable, and accommodations are as deluxe as expected from a modern Cadillac. The materials used throughout the XT5’s cabin appear upscale when examined individually, but when viewed as a whole, the result is a design that appears unfocused. The interior’s layout is good, and the driving position is agreeable. And for 2020, the XT5 received better interior materials, improved ergonomics, and upgraded features such as a new digital gauge cluster.

Even luxury crossovers should be practical, and the XT5 excels in this category. Above average cargo space, plenty of bins for stashing smaller items, and an easy-to-fold rear seat allow this Caddy to easily transform from luxury liner to cargo king. The XT5’s cargo hold accommodated an impressive 10 carry-on cases with the rear seat in place. Once folded, we fit 24 carry-ons.

2021 Cadillac XT5 Infotainment

Infotainment and Connectivity

All XT5 models come well-connected right out of the gate, with standard niceties such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The infotainment system offers intuitive controls including a rotary controller. An updated Bose sound system is also now available. There are four USB ports located conveniently throughout the cabin for charging mobile devices, and a wireless inductive phone-charging pad is available between the two front seats.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

The XT5 has earned a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) but missed out on a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) due to poor-performing headlamps. Unfortunately, those who value driver assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring will find themselves shelling out beaucoup bucks. Key safety features include:

  •  Available automated emergency braking
  •  Available adaptive cruise control
  •  Available lane-keeping assist

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Cadillac’s standard warranty coverages match or exceed those of most of the XT5’s rivals. The Caddy also offers complimentary scheduled maintenance, but it only covers the first visit, which falls short of the three years or 36,000 miles that Volvo covers.

  •  Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers 6 years or 70,000 miles
  •  Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for the first visit

2021 Cadillac CT4 for sale near Stuart, FL

2021 Cadillac CT4 Review, Specs, and Pricing

As the sole American offering in a European dominated segment, the 2021 Cadillac CT4 has a lot to prove. Luckily, its sharp styling matches its playful driving demeanor, and the CT4 serves as a desirable entry-level Caddy that doesn’t ignore the wants and needs of enthusiast drivers. Two turbocharged four-cylinder engines are on offer: A 237-hp 2.0-liter comes standard, but we’d recommend the optional 309-hp 2.7-liter mill.

Buyers looking for even more performance should hold out for the CT4-V Blackwing (reviewed separately), which debuts for 2021. Unfortunately for Cadillac, the CT4’s somewhat down-market cabin doesn’t quite hit the same target as entry luxury compact cars such as the BMW 2-series Gran Coupe and Mercedes-Benz A-class.

2021 Cadillac CT4 Driver View

What’s New for 2021?

The CT4 enters its second year on the market with a few upgrades, namely a newly optional 12.0-inch digital gauge display and an available Diamond Sky Edition package. The latter adds a lower body kit, Brembo brakes, model specific wheels, an aluminum trimmed center console, and two-tone leather upholstery, among other things. Cadillac has also made previously optional driver assistance features—such as automated emergency braking and pedestrian detection standard and added a Super Cruise semi autonomous driving mode as an option.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The mid-range Premium Luxury trim marks the high-value spot in the CT4 lineup. Moving up from the base Luxury model to the Premium Luxury brings niceties such as genuine leather upholstery and 18-inch wheels. We’d splurge and add the Bose premium audio system, which includes navigation and a 14-speaker stereo system along with a wireless smartphone charging pad. No matter which option packages you choose, do yourself a favor and spec the more powerful turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine.

2021 Cadillac CT4 Engine Specifications

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Buyers can choose between two turbocharged four-cylinder engines: A 237-hp 2.0-liter powers the base Luxury and mid-range Premium Luxury and Sport models, while a 2.7-liter is optional in the Premium Luxury and standard in the CT4-V. It makes 309 horsepower in the former and 325 horses in the latter. The smaller of the two engines is paired to an eight-speed automatic while the larger four gets a 10-speed. Rear-wheel drive is the standard arrangement and rare in this segment.

Rivals such as the Audi A3, BMW 2-series Gran Coupe, and Mercedes A-class are all based on front-drive chassis. The CT4 offers all-wheel drive on all models as an option. We’ve driven the CT4-V and found it to be athletic, eager, and quick, although we would have preferred more refinement from the 10-speed gearbox. Even in this sportiest guise, the Caddy’s suspension handles potholes without punishing occupants and delivers sharp, rewarding handling that any car enthusiast can appreciate.

2021 Cadillac CT4 Fuel Economy Rating

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Both of the CT4’s turbocharged four-cylinder engines provide decent fuel economy. Rear-wheel-drive models with the 2.0-liter are rated as high at 23 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. Opting for all-wheel drive drops the highway number by 2 mpg and the combined number by 1.

The more powerful 2.7-liter engine is less efficient but not by much, with the rear-drive model coming in at 20 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The CT4’s key rivals—the Audi A3, the BMW 2-series Gran Coupe, and the Mercedes-Benz A-class—all boast similar fuel economy ratings.

2021 Cadillac CT4 Cargo Trunk Space

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Inside the CT4, Cadillac has wisely switched to a more user-friendly control setup versus the largely touch sensitive interface found on the ATS. Although the interior design and the quality of the materials at first appear attractive, they are ultimately unremarkable. Cabin space is tight for adults, especially in the rear seats, but Cadillac makes several luxury features standard even on the base trim, including 12-way power adjustable front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Moving up through the range provides more desirable features, such as leather upholstery, magnesium paddle shifters, ambient interior lighting, and memory settings for the driver’s seat and exterior mirrors.

2021 Cadillac CT4 Infotainment & Connectivity

Infotainment and Connectivity

All CT4s come with an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with the latest CUE software. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces come standard, as does an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Cadillac offers navigation on all models. It comes bundled with a wireless smartphone charging pad and a 14-speaker Bose stereo system that replaces the car’s standard eight-speaker arrangement.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have published crash-test results for the CT4. Cadillac offers a host of driver assistance features, but few are offered as standard, a curiosity given mainstream small cars such as the Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3 offer such features gratis. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  •  Available lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  •  Available adaptive cruise control with a semi autonomous driving mode

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Cadillac outdoes its rivals with two more years and 20,000 more miles of coverage on the powertrain part of its warranty, but buyers of the 2-series Gran Coupe are treated to three years of complimentary maintenance whereas the CT4 offers only one free visit.

  •  Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers six years or 70,000 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit
2021 Cadillac CT-5 for Sale near Stuart, FL

2021 Cadillac CT5 Pricing, Specs, and Review

The 2021 CT5 is Cadillac’s sports sedan, a crucial role in any luxury automaker’s portfolio. When compared with its rivals—the BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C-class, and Genesis G70—the CT5 doesn’t have the sharpest reflexes or the poshest cabin, but its handsome styling helps it stand out from the crowd. A turbocharged four-cylinder comes standard, but buyers can upgrade to a twin-turbo V-6 with up to 360 horsepower.

The Caddy’s cabin is more spacious than many of its rivals’, making it easier to use as a family car. And all models come with touchscreen infotainment, basic driver assistance technologies, and plenty of convenience features.

2021 Cadillac CT5 Center Console

What’s New for 2021?

Like the smaller CT4, the CT5 receives a new Diamond Sky Metallic Edition package for 2021, which offers unique exterior and interior design elements including distinct wheels. A new 12.0-inch digital gauge display is newly available, and Cadillac will offer its Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving mode as an option on 2021 CT5s.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The Premium Luxury trim is worth the extra cash. It adds features such as interior ambient lighting, a wireless smartphone charging pad, illuminated exterior door handles, blind-spot monitoring, driver-seat memory settings, rear parking sensors, and power lumbar support for the driver and front-seat passenger. It also unlocks many options, such as the Driver Awareness Plus package.

That brings automatic high-beams, lane-keeping assist, a head-up display, and more. We’d recommend it, but you should note that it also requires you select the Lighting package, which consists of front cornering lamps and illuminated doorsills.

2021 Cadillac CT5 Engine Specs

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The standard engine in the CT5 is a 237-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but you can upgrade to a 335-hp twin turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. The performance oriented CT5-V boasts a 360-hp version of the twin-turbo V-6 as well as adaptive dampers and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

A more track-ready model is also in the works, with a prototype already spotted testing. Both engines pair with a 10-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. In our testing, a rear-drive CT5 with the turbo four-cylinder sauntered to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

The BMW 330i and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti, two of the CT5’s key rivals, completed the same test in 5.1 and 4.6 seconds, respectively. When it comes to ride and handling, the CT5 is both more softly sprung and less athletic than the CTS it replaces. Body control is sloppier, and the improvements to the car’s ride aren’t enough to justify what feels like a step backward in driving dynamics.

2021 Cadillac CT5 Fuel Economy Rating

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates the 2021 CT5 with the standard turbo-four is rated for up to 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The 335-hp V-6 is rated up to 19 mpg city and 28 highway, with the 360-hp version slightly behind at 18 mpg city and up to 27 mpg highway. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, the rear-drive Sport model managed 31 mpg.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Cadillac corrected some of the CTS’s interior flaws with this new sports sedan; namely, the CT5 provides a more user-friendly interface and straight-forward design. Unfortunately, the quality of the cabin materials seems unworthy of the CT5’s positioning as a luxury vehicle.

Premium Luxury models are available with a nice open-pore wood trim that elevates the interior design, but it mingles alongside cheap black plastic that could’ve been lifted from the plebian Chevrolet Malibu family sedan. The rear seat is more spacious than the CTS’s, but rivals such as the Acura TLX and the Volvo S60 both feel roomier. All three vehicles have similarly sized trunks, though, and each fit five of our carry-on suitcases behind the rear seats.

2021 Cadillac CT5 Infotainment

Infotainment and Connectivity

The CT5 features the latest version of the CUE infotainment system, displayed on a 10.0-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. It’s much more logically structured than the old system and swaps some of the touch sensitive controls for physical ones.

You can control the system via a rotary wheel located behind the shifter or by interacting with the touchscreen itself. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration comes standard. Desirable available features include a head-up display, wireless device charging, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system.

2021 Cadillac CT5 Safety Features

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2021 CT5 earned a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but it hasn’t been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). A host of driver-assistance technology is available, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. GM’s Super Cruise Level 2 autonomous-driving feature—which can manage a vehicle’s steering, acceleration, and braking without the driver needing to keep his or her hands on the wheel—will be available sometime after launch. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  •  Available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  •  Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The CT5’s warranty coverage is more generous than that of the German sports sedans, particularly in the powertrain warranty, where it outdoes the 3-series and Mercedes-Benz C-class by two years or 20,000 miles. Better warranties are available in the entry-luxury marketplace with the Genesis G70 and Kia Stinger, both of which offer longer limited and powertrain warranties. The Genesis even comes with three full years of complimentary scheduled maintenance, while Cadillac includes only the first visit free of charge.

  •  Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers six years or 70,000 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit
2021 Cadillac XT4 for sale near Stuart, FL

2021 Cadillac XT4 Review, Specs, and Pricing

With no shortage of choices in the small-luxury SUV marketplace, the Cadillac XT4 will appeal to buyers who value a sharp-edged design, a spacious interior, and a traditionally upright, SUV-like driving position. All models come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and either front- or all-wheel drive.

The cabin has a modern appearance with plenty of standard and optional technology and infotainment features, but overall refinement isn’t quite on the same level as the XT4’s key rivals, which includes the Audi Q3, the BMW X1, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class. If you overlook its down-market interior materials, the XT4 remains a practical and stylish option in this popular segment.

2021 Cadillac XT4 Technology

What’s New for 2021?

Cadillac has made only a few minor changes to the XT4 for 2021, starting with the base Luxury trim level, which receives a new standard power rear liftgate and the option of leather upholstery. An optional Driver Awareness package that includes automatic high-beam headlamps and lane-keeping assist has also been added to the Luxury trim.

The Sport trim receives red-painted brake calipers, and both it and the Premium Luxury model come with new exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals. Two new colors join the available palette: Infrared Tint coat and Wave Metallic.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The Cadillac XT4 base price is $36,790, and all-wheel drive adds $2500 to every model for those who want it. The Premium Luxury and Sport models both cost almost the same, but since the former doesn’t live up to its name, and the latter is even better to drive, we’d recommend the XT4 Sport. It has unique wheel designs, blacked-out exterior trim, and exclusive interior accents.

The Sport model also has an exclusive active suspension with adaptive dampers and better bolstered front seats. To that we’d add the Comfort and Convenience package (leather interior, ventilated and massaging front seats, etc.) and choose the Active Sport suspension (adaptive dampers) to avoid the ride quality reducing 20-inch wheels that are required with the Sport Dynamics package.

2021 Cadillac XT4 Engine Specs

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Under the hood of all XT4s is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 237 horsepower. It pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. The 2019 XT4 Sport we tested sashayed its way to 60 mph in a lackluster 7.8 seconds—1.5 seconds behind the X1.

Despite the difference, the XT4 felt spry around town and when merging onto the highway. Ignore Cadillac’s assertion of sportiness with the XT4. It’s more of a boulevard cruiser than a sports car. The ride is okay, so long as the road is relatively smooth.

Rough stretches of asphalt translate plenty of vibrations and sharp impacts into the cabin, especially when riding on the optional 20-inch wheels. The steering is similarly disappointing and is neither feel some nor direct in its action. The XT4’s only decisive controls are its brakes, which hauled our test car down from 70 mph in our emergency stopping test in 172 feet with one of the firmest brake pedals we’ve encountered.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Despite its fuel-saving cylinder shut off capability, the XT4 earns wholly average EPA fuel economy estimates, with front-wheel-drive variants reaching 30 mpg on the highway. In our real-world highway fuel economy test, our all-wheel-drive test vehicle managed just 27 of its EPA-rated 29 mpg.

2021 Cadillac XT4 Cargo Trunk Space

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Space

The XT4’s interior, while comfortable and spacious, isn’t as high-class as we expect in this premium segment. The dashboard and upper door panels are covered in a stitched, faux-leather wrap, but lower on the doors and center console, cheaper, sharp-edged plastic persists. The buttons and switches look and feel as though they’re likely to be shared with less expensive offerings in the General Motors portfolio.

Space is great for the front-seat occupants and actually pretty decent in the back seat, too. As with its passenger compartment, the XT4’s cargo room is spacious. Behind the XT4’s rear seat we fit six of our carry-on suitcases, and with the seatbacks folded flat, we managed to fit 18—slightly more than smaller rivals such as the Mini Cooper Countryman.

If you’re looking for a small SUV that can haul cargo like a larger one, the Volvo XC40—which held 23 carry-on suitcases—is worth a look.

2021 Cadillac XT4 Infotainment

Infotainment and Connectivity

All XT4 models come with an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Cadillac’s CUE software. The touchscreen looks nice and crisp and is tucked slightly into the dashboard. The interface is reasonably easy to use, too, and in addition to touching the screen, the user can also interact via a console mounted knob.

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, and a seven-speaker audio system are all standard; navigation is optional, as is a 13-speaker Bose audio system. Selecting the available Technology package (Premium Luxury and Sport models only) adds a digital gauge cluster, a head-up display, and a wireless smartphone charging pad.

2021 Cadillac XT4 Driver Assisted Technology

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

The XT4 has earned a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t completed its battery of testing. Cadillac does offer it with a plethora of driver assistance features, but few of them are standard fare. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard forward collision warning and automated emergency braking
  •  Available blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  •  Available adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic Emergency Braking

2023 Cadillac Lyriq Overview

Cadillac’s first entrant into the luxury electric vehicle market will be the Lyriq SUV, previewed by a concept car with sharp styling and a modern cabin. Cadillac says that both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive models will be offered, and that its new SUV will have a driving range of more than 300 miles. The Lyriq has been designed from the ground up and will ride on General Motors’s new scalable battery architecture; the company claims a low center of gravity and a spacious cabin as benefits of the dedicated EV-architecture. The Lyriq should be on sale sometime in late 2022 as a 2023 model.

What’s New for 2023?

Not only is Lyriq a brand-new nameplate for the struggling American luxury brand, it’s also Cadillac’s first all-electric offering. When it goes on sale, it’ll go head to head with heavy hitters such as the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, and Tesla Model X.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Cadillac hasn’t said exactly how much the Lyriq’s will cost or if it will follow the brand’s usual trim-level arrangement. However, we expect it start at just under $60,000, which is a requirement to be eligible for state incentives in California and New York.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Lyriq will come standard in rear-wheel drive form with an electric motor on the rear axle; all-wheel drive will be optional and adds a second motor at the front to drive those wheels. Cadillac has been mum on details about the Lyriq’s electric powertrain so far, so we don’t know how much horsepower it will make. Either way, acceleration is sure to be brisk, at least at lower speeds, thanks to the immediate nature of an electric motor’s power delivery. The I-Pace, for example, leapt to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds during our testing; we expect the Lyriq to provide similar performance.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

General Motors is launching a line of new EV battery technology with the Lyriq called Ultium. The scalable technology allows the automaker to produce batteries that range in size from 50.0 kWh to 200 kWh, although the largest size is said to be reserved only for large EV pickup trucks such as the upcoming GMC Hummer EV SUT. Cadillac claims that the Lyriq will offer a battery with about 100-kWh worth of capacity and should be capable of driving ranges of more than 300 miles per charge. DC fast charging capability will be standard but the Lyriq will also be able to charge on home power outlets as well.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

So far there’s been no word from the EPA on the Lyriq’s estimated fuel economy (as expressed in MPGe), but we expect that to become available closer to the SUV’s on-sale date. We’ll also have the opportunity to put the Lyriq through our 200-mile highway fuel economy test in the future, and when we do we’ll update this story with results.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Lyriq concept vehicle shows a spacious interior with just four seats and a center console that divides the two front and two rear seats, with a touchscreen for the rear seat passengers. We’re not sure how much of that will make it to production, and we expect three-across seating the second row. Cadillac says using the dedicated EV-architecture allows for a more airy and open cabin with plenty of space for passengers to get comfortable. More advanced noise cancellation technology is said to reduce road noise inside the cabin, and the interior designers have incorporated surprises such as backlit speaker grilles and hidden storage cubbies.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq Infotainment

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Lyriq’s dashboard, like the new 2021 Escalade’s, is dominated by a giant, 33.0-inch curved OLED display that serves as both the SUV’s infotainment system and the driver’s gauge display. In the Escalade, the infotainment system can be controlled by a click wheel on the center console, a boon for drivers who aren’t fond of touchscreens. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are all expected to be standard features when the Lyriq rolls into Cadillac showrooms. A 19-speaker stereo system from the high-end audio experts at AKG will be offered, but it’s unclear if it will be a standard or optional feature when the Lyriq reaches the market.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have released crash-test results for the Lyriq. We are expecting Cadillac to endow it with many driver-assistance features, though, and Cadillac says the brand’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology will be offered as well. Key safety features are likely to include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  •  Available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  •  Available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Like the similarly sized Cadillac XT5 and XT6 SUVs, the Lyriq will come with a powertrain warranty that trumps that of other premium people haulers. Cadillac currently covers the first dealer maintenance visit, but rivals such as the I-Pace offer longer periods of free maintenance. We would expect that the Lyriq’s battery warranty will match that of the Chevy Bolt’s at 8 years or 100,000 miles.

  •  Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers 6 years or 70,000 miles
  •  Complimentary maintenance is covered the first visit
